Will Gaines Looking to Heaven

“Jesus changed my life; He is worth everything.”

Musician Will Gaines’ strong faith is woven throughout his art. The Oklahoma-based songwriter shared that he is in love with Jesus.

“I believe everything I do on this side of eternity is worth pointing to Him,” Gaines said. “He is worth losing everything to still have Him.”

The Christian singer is grateful for the Lord and His provisions; and he desires to share the goodness of God with others.

“I want to use His gift to point to the truth and the value that is only found in Jesus,” the artist said.

Gaines uses the Bible and his life as motivating factors to continue creating his praise-filled art.

“Inspiration is odd,” he shared. “Most of my inspiration comes in darkness: in times of struggle, sin, sadness, loss, and more.”

The singer turns to Scripture and reflects upon when David wrote Psalms.

“David probably wasn’t approaching those writings as a way to ‘make it’ or to ‘get his poetry heard’ — he wrote about repentance, why he was so downcast, his longing and his desperation,” the musician explained.

Gaines, who plays multiple instruments, and spends time leading worship at summer camps, says that his own words have caught him by surprise at times.

“Most of the songs or even poetry that comes to me, come when I least expect it,” he stated.

The practice of consistency helps Gaines strengthen his art.

“I do set aside times to write, even when I don’t feel it,” he explained. “The regular discipline and practice of journaling and creating makes you better; and better at it.”

The artist’s song, ‘Take Me Back,’ has a strong line that perfectly encapsulates his life lived in faith: “shouting for joy even when it keeps raining.”
