Passion & Purpose: T Log
“Music is a release for me; it’s a way that I commune with God, like writing Him love letters.”
Rap artist and lyricist T Log (Tyler Logsdon) preaches the Gospel of Jesus Christ through his music and ministry ‘Miles By Faith.’
The artist developed a love for creativity at an early age. In high school he excelled in literature and poetry; and spent hours freestyling and listening to hip hop music.
But the artist remembers there was a lack of structure. He didn’t know then, but God would soon provide a path.
“I was in college, and Jesus grabbed ahold of my heart; He reminded me of my purpose,” reflected T Log. “It sparked a significant passion in me to use what I was given to glorify God.”
The artist continued, “I had this new passion embedded in my heart that originated from THE Passion that changed my heart. His name is Jesus.”
Stepping out in faith, T Log began a social media ministry; and soon after, the rapper began to post his music online.
“The positive feedback from trusted peers and artists who I look up to motivated me to create music more seriously,” he explained.
The artist prayed and sought God’s will for his music. The prayer path led to T Log’s brother-in-Christ, worship artist Chandler Letner.
“Chandler reached out to me about producing music to help release my first song,” T Log recalled. “That moment influenced my approach to the seriousness of my art.”
T Log explained his main inspiration for music came from listening to artists like NF, who take hip hop music and use it to convey an outward position of their inward being.
“I realized I could take my emotions and life experiences and put them into songs,” T Log stated. “The lyrical genius of artists like NF, paired with the theological writing from the Biblical scriptures of David and Paul inspired me to take my music and make it real. It’s now been my heart’s motive to use those realities to apply them to my own.”
The rapper incorporates two messages into his music: the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the relatability of being a faulty human with emotions, circumstances, passions, and lifestyle who is trying to do his best.
T Log’s hope is for listeners to hear how the rhythm, beat, authenticity, and lyrical content convey the reality of life and their own feelings.
“In my music, I pour out all the things I bottle in my mind: both easy/fun/hype and hard/difficult/emotional. I think that’s why all of my songs sound different,” he shared.
In his track ‘My Grind,’ T Log speaks of an important step we can all aspire to take: ‘Shut out the darkness and evil with my holy light.’
When asked what sparked his passion for his art and his ministry, the rapper stated, “It was simply Jesus.”
The artist’s advice to other creatives is to be their authentic selves, create what they feel, and simply find their own sound.
