Glorifying God: A Q&A with CHH Artist Grimlokk
In addition to being a Christian hip hop artist, Grimlokk is also a professional producer, music engineer, and the owner of Thru the Storm Ministry, using his talents to spread the word of God through music and testimonies. In this Q&A, the TSW artist from Lancaster, Pennsylvania shares how his faith has shaped the vision behind his ministry and how he weaves Christian beliefs into his creative process as both an artist and producer.
Q: How has your faith guided the direction of Thru the Storm Ministry?
A: I was actually on a Christian-based tour (The Extreme Tour) two years ago when a brother in Christ (and fellow artist) told me God had a word for me. He said that when I would get back home, I was to start a ministry. At first I thought he was crazy because I never saw me doing something like that or even knowing how to start it. But I prayed and ever since God has been building it up slowly. I had my first ministry event in Harrisburg where I had Christian artists perform and do an alter call after the show. And at that moment, I knew what God had in store for me.
Q: As an artist and producer, how do you incorporate your Christian beliefs in the music you create?
A: I see myself as a Christian hip hop artist, so throughout all my music, its quality is like mainstream music but each song has a message. I pray before I record any music and ask the Holy Spirit to use me and make a song. And as a producer this year, the Lord came to me and said He didn't want me recording worldly music anymore, because I was basically serving different kingdoms. As the Bible says, you can't be of this world and of God. I was helping put out worldly music and He opened my eyes to it. So I have stopped recording worldly artists and can only record Christian artists and music for His kingdom only. It is definitely a season of having faith and trusting in the Lord; but no amount of money is worth more than my soul and making it to Heaven.
